If you have just moved to Hanoi and you are weighing up muay thai for women in Hanoi, here is the short version: a single class costs 300,000d, you need gym clothes and a bottle of water, and gloves and wraps are lent to you for the first session. No contract, no joining fee, and no need to commit to a month before you have tried it.
This post covers what the hour actually contains, what it costs at each level, and what to bring. It opens with the 5k run we ran with She Runs Hanoi on International Women’s Day, because that morning is the reason a lot of readers found this page. If you only want the numbers, the price table sits in the middle.
The 5k Run for Women in Hanoi We Ran on 8 March
On Sunday 8 March 2026, International Women’s Day, RHINO ran a 5km route around Tay Ho together with She Runs Hanoi. The distance was chosen deliberately. Five kilometres is short enough that somebody who has never run a race can finish it, and long enough that the group stays together for most of it. It was open to women of every nationality living and working in Vietnam, so the route had Vietnamese and international runners on it side by side.
She Runs Hanoi has been going since June 2025 under the motto “Run Like a Girl”. According to RunningCrews’ write-up of the club, around 60 women turn out each week, a mix of Hanoi locals and expats, beginners and racers. That structure is close to how we run group classes here, which is why organising a joint 5k run for women in Hanoi took very little adjusting on either side.
| Time | What happened |
|---|---|
| 06:00 | Introductions |
| 06:20 | Warm-up |
| 06:40 | 5km start |
| 07:30 | Networking and eating together |
| 08:00 | Finish |
The whole thing fitted into two early hours and was done before eight, which matters on a working Sunday. Nobody was timed and there was no leaderboard, because the point was health rather than performance. The message both sides wanted to send was straightforward: looking after yourself includes moving regularly.

Why a Boxing Gym Organised a Run
Running and Muay Thai share a conditioning base, so they support each other more than people expect. If you already run, you will notice you do not fade in the second half of a class. Going the other way, the footwork and the trunk work in Muay Thai help you hold form over longer distances.
There is a more practical reason too. Plenty of people want to try a new sport but would rather not have their first experience of it be walking alone into an unfamiliar room. Meeting the same faces outdoors first, then stepping into the gym, is a gentler order of events. We organised a football morning with the same thinking behind it.
Five Things to Know Before Your First Muay Thai Class
These are the five questions we get asked most about muay thai for women in Hanoi, in the order they usually come up. None of them requires you to prepare anything at home, and none of them costs you anything to find out.
- You do not need existing fitness. The warm-up and the conditioning block get scaled to the person in front of the coach. If you need to stop for water, you stop for water, and nobody in the room registers it.
- You will not be sparring. Sparring is optional and it is for people who have been training a while. Your first Muay Thai class is stance, movement, and throwing into pads a coach is holding.
The remaining three are about equipment, class size, and how you pay. These are the ones that tend to settle people’s nerves once they know the answer.
- Gloves and wraps are here. Borrow ours for the first few sessions. Buy your own once you know you want to keep going, not before.
- Group classes cap at 6. Small enough that the coach corrects each person several times in the hour, so you are not repeating a mistake for sixty minutes with nobody telling you.
- You can pay per session. No monthly card required to start. Both the drop-in rate and the monthly rate are in the table below.
On timetables, message us the day before rather than working from a schedule you found online. Class times shift, and asking is faster than guessing. It also lets us slot your first Muay Thai class into a session where a coach has room to stay with you.

Muay Thai Classes for Women: What Actually Differs
The syllabus does not differ. Muay Thai classes for women and men run off the same material: stance, footwork, punches, kicks and knees are taught the same way to everybody. What gets adjusted is load and how quickly you progress, and coaches adjust that per person regardless of gender. Somebody who already runs 5k regularly moves faster than somebody who has been at a desk all week, and that is the comparison that actually predicts anything.
On results, there is research on exactly this group rather than general fitness advice. A study on PubMed followed previously untrained women over 13 weeks and recorded improved physical fitness in both the twice-a-week group and the three-times-a-week group. The detail worth noticing is that twice a week was enough to show a result, so you do not need to clear four or five evenings.
That matches how we advise beginners. Two sessions a week held steadily for three months beats five sessions a week abandoned in a fortnight. For muay thai classes for women who are also holding down a job and a household, twice a week is simply the number that survives contact with a real calendar. If you already run with a group like She Runs Hanoi, two gym sessions fit alongside it without much rearranging.
Your First Muay Thai Class, Minute by Minute
A group class runs about 60 minutes in a fixed order, so by your second visit you already know what is coming. That predictability is most of what makes a first Muay Thai class less daunting than people imagine — you are never guessing what happens next.
It opens with roughly 10 minutes of warm-up: light running, joint rotations, a few mobility movements. The coach then spends about 15 minutes teaching or revisiting technique, which on day one is usually stance plus one or two basic punches. Next comes about 20 minutes on the pads, throwing into targets a coach or a classmate holds. Those twenty minutes are the hardest part of the hour and also the part that brings most people back.
The last 10 minutes are conditioning and stretching. Then you shower here and go. Throughout, the coach circulates and fixes technique individually, and with six people in the room that means several corrections each rather than one at the end. Nobody is expected to retain all of it from a first Muay Thai class.

What Muay Thai for Women in Hanoi Costs
Three rates cover almost everyone starting out, and all three are the gym’s standard rates rather than anything gender-specific. The right-hand column converts each one to a per-session figure so you are comparing like with like instead of a monthly number against a single-class number.
| Option | Price | Per session |
|---|---|---|
| Group class, drop-in | 300,000d per session | 300,000d |
| Group class, 1 month | 2,000,000d per month | depends on attendance |
| Private, 1 to 1 | from 700,000d per session | from 700,000d |
The monthly card is the one worth doing arithmetic on. 2,000,000 divided by 300,000 is 6.67 sessions. So from your seventh session in a calendar month, the monthly card is cheaper than paying per class. At six sessions or fewer, paying per class still wins, which is usually the right answer while you are deciding whether you like the sport at all.
Private training costs more than double, and what you buy is more coaching attention inside the same hour. If your goal is conditioning and learning the basics, group classes generally already cover it. The full rate card, including longer packages and the Kids Club, is on Muay Thai prices in Hanoi.
Book a trial session
A group drop-in is 300,000d with no contract. Classes cap at six people, and gloves and wraps are here for you to borrow.
What to Bring
Shorter than you would think. Sports top, shorts or leggings, socks, a bottle of water, a towel. If your hair is long, bring something to tie it back, because pad work is unpleasant otherwise.
You do not need gloves, wraps, shin guards or shoes for a first session. Muay Thai is trained barefoot on the mats, so trainers stay in your bag. After four or five sessions, if you can see yourself continuing, buy your own gloves and ask a coach about sizing then.
Training in Tay Ho When You Are New to Hanoi
Tay Ho is where most of Hanoi’s international residents end up living, and Quang An and Xuan Dieu are the middle of it. That is useful for a beginner for a dull but real reason: if the gym is a short ride from your flat, you will actually go. Most people who quit a gym in their first month quit over the commute, not the training.
We have two locations, both in Tay Ho. Branch one is 87 Alley 50 Dang Thai Mai in Quang An. Branch two is 23 Alley 52 To Ngoc Van. Both sit in the same neighbourhood the 8 March route ran through, so if you were out that morning you have already been past at least one of them.
One practical note on muay thai for women in Hanoi if you have only just arrived: both addresses are down alleys, which is normal here and not a sign you have the wrong place. Give yourself an extra five minutes the first time, and message us if the entrance is not obvious. Alley numbering is the single thing newcomers most often get caught out by.

Questions We Get Asked
Can I join a class if I have never trained anything before?
Yes, and it is the most common starting point. The warm-up and conditioning are scaled per person, and in a room of six there is almost always somebody newer than you. The PubMed study above tracked precisely this group: previously untrained women, twice a week.
Will Muay Thai make me bulky?
This is the question we hear most about muay thai classes for women. A group class is warm-up, technique, pads and conditioning rather than heavy loaded lifting. Body composition also depends on diet and how often you train, so we do not promise a specific outcome in advance.
Is it awkward turning up on my own?
No, and most people do. Group classes pair you by level, so you get put with somebody at a similar stage. Bring a friend if you would rather, since two of you in one class is no problem.
How far ahead do I need to book?
The day before is usually enough for a first Muay Thai class. The reason to message at all is class size: with a cap of six, a session can already be full, and we would rather move you to a quieter slot than have you arrive and wait. If you want a specific time on a specific day, give us a couple of days.
Can my children train here too?
There is a separate Kids Club with its own rates, so children train in their own sessions rather than joining an adult group class. The age groupings and prices are on the prices page.
Will you run the 8 March event again next year?
The 2026 run was the first time we organised one with She Runs Hanoi. Next year’s date for a 5k run for women in Hanoi is not fixed yet, so watch our contact page and channels for an announcement.
Where to Start
The cheapest sensible way into muay thai for women in Hanoi is one drop-in at 300,000d. Bring water, and leave the decision about a monthly card until after your third session. Message us through the contact page or call 091 2000 979, and say you are new, so we can put you in a class where a coach is free to walk you through it.
If you would rather look around first, read about the gym and the current class options. There is also a Vietnamese version of this guide if you would prefer to send it to a Vietnamese friend.
